Overview
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, released in 2020, was one of the most anticipated games of the decade. A reimagining of the iconic 1997 title, it set the stage for SQUARE ENIX to reintroduce this beloved world to a new generation of gamers while also maintaining the integrity of the original for long-time fans. My role in this project involved designing the main website and serving as the campaign manager for all email marketing efforts.
Objectives
The website needed to be the central hub for all things FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, offering news, media, pre-order information, and player resources. It had to be visually striking, functional, and scalable across different devices.
Visual Direction: We aimed for a sleek, modern look that captured the grandeur and nostalgia of the original game. The design utilized cinematic imagery, dynamic scrolling elements, and bold typography to emphasize the game’s updated graphics while maintaining elements of the original’s aesthetic.
User Journey: The site was designed to guide users seamlessly through different sections, making it easy to find trailers, gameplay details, and pre-order options. This smooth navigation was especially important in driving engagement and conversions for game sales and collector’s edition pre-orders.
Localization and Scalability: Given the global fanbase, the site was built to handle multiple languages and regions, ensuring that content was accessible to all audiences.
Challenge
The primary challenge was to modernize the marketing experience for a game with such a storied legacy. Our target audience was diverse: from nostalgic fans eager to relive their favorite moments to new players curious about the game for the first time. Balancing the depth and emotional weight of the original story with the need to create fresh, engaging content for newcomers was key to our strategy.
Results
Website: The FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE website became a central pillar of our marketing campaign, receiving millions of visits in the lead-up to launch. Its design contributed significantly to high user engagement and positive fan feedback, providing a home base for players looking for updates, media, and more.
Email Campaigns: The email campaigns saw impressive open and conversion rates. Pre-order emails performed particularly well, with strong engagement from both veteran players and newcomers. The campaign not only drove sales but also helped build a lasting connection with players, many of whom stayed engaged for post-launch updates and content.
